< – Part 5 – FA Cup

In reality, Argyle may have just been knocked out of the 2nd round of the FA Cup against Oxford. But our video game versions have just beaten non-league Barnet and have a home tie against Bolton to look forward to.

Things could not be any different. 7th in the league and no worries of the prospect of relegation. So sit back and escape reality with Part 6 of FM19 An Argyle Journey.

Carey is back from being dropped for the FA Cup game in an effort to get more out of him. Ladapo deserves to keep his spot.

Welcome back Kelvin Mellor.

Another case of the opposition team being more clinical. Two similar goals, cut back from the byline to a player to smash in from the six-y**d box… Our defence were like statues.

Ryan Taylor is not happy. Understandable. Stuck behind Kinds and Ladapo as 3rd choice. Our play in the final third does seem a little dis-jointed and could use Taylor’s hold up play. Something to think about.

Big Jimmy gets the Oxford job.

And it’s goodbye Antonio Cassano. You probably forgot he was here.

I don’t want to think of how much money we’ve spent on keeping him in the reserves. He was rapidly declining and I literally couldn’t afford to play him.

If he played 10 times for Argyle it would have automated a contract extension. If he had played and scored every game It would have put me in a tricky position. I hope that his time with the youngsters was valuable. We set him to mentor a couple of them.

I guess we never know what could have been Antonio.

Derek Adams employment status – Unemployed.

I didn’t actually realise O’Keefe was only here until January. With the way he has been playing, its a no brainer to keep him here longer.

Derek Adams employment status – employed.

And Derek is back in football! Chartlon Athletic have come calling.

Charlton, predicted to finish 4th are currently in the relegation zone. Can Derek turn it around for them? We will see him back at Home Park on the 6th of April.

And it’s back to the football, Rochdale away. Hinds in for Ladapo. Neither striker convincing me at the moment. Ryan Taylor’s time will surely come.

In a very dull game it was Rochdale who come out winners. A header from Zach Clough should have been an easy save for Macey, but it went through his hand like it was made of paper.

The inconsistency continues.

We aren’t scoring goals and it doesn’t help when none of your strikers are in-form.

So when the 4-3-3 isn’t working, this seems to be the go-to. Callum Gribbin in the hole for our 3rd game against Accrington in two months.

We went behind after another set-piece goal, but soon found ourselves in-front. A penalty from Carey and then a beautiful free-kick from Callum Gribbin. Carey sealed the win in the second half with a volley. Hopefully now Carey can kick on and get in-form.

Unbeknownst to me, our director of football has brought back Sean McCarthy in the role of under-18’s manager.

And just like that Christmas has come and gone, and it’s the boxing day game.

Wimbledon away. And the striker merry-go-round continues with Ladapo back in.

And it was Ladapo that opened the scoring. Graham Carey now getting assists under his belt with a great ball over the top that Freddie finishes brilliantly.

Minutes later a great series of passes lead to a Lamieras shot which bounces comically off the post, onto the goalkeeper back onto the post and in. 2 – 0.

We blew our 3 – 0 lead in the last 10 minutes and nearly threw away the 3 points as Wimbledon pulled it back to 3-2. Should not have been that close.

Derek Adams Chartlon watch – Still hasn’t won a game.

Graham Carey’s recent spell of good form and contract situation see’s a host of championship clubs state their interest in the Irishman.

With just a few days until the transfer window opens I open up contract talks to keep him…

He is willing to negotiate, he wasn’t when I tried earlier in the season.

Lilian Nalis loves Graham Carey.

Top of the league Burton away. The media don’t fancy our chances.

Hold on, whats this? Derek Adams wants Matt Neil? Surely Matt won’t go, he loves Argyle too much.

The cheek of Adams to come and poach our staff.

Same team, we keep the faith.

And once more Burton fail to beat us. We can be happy with that.

Derek Adams I swear to god. leave my Data Analysts alone.

It wouldn’t be an episode of An Argyle Journey without Jamie Ness getting injured.

Greg Strong has recommended Jack Rodwell. Injury prone Jack Rodwell.

The jokes write themselves.

That’s poor from you Matt.

Enjoy London. ( snake emoji )

The first game of 2019!

Happy new year.

At least someone is loyal.

We’ve got Carey.

Another two years.

Don’t look too hard at what I’m paying him okay.

Okay come on Gregg, I need you to leave else Graham Carey is going to bankrupt the club.

Just before the 3rd round of the FA Cup and Matt Macey gets the shits.

Okay, yes I know our number one goalkeeper just got injured before a big game, but I trust Mike Cooper.

Burgoyne is going back to Wolves.

We are actually favourites to beat the Championship strugglers.

And here we go then. Can we get ourselves into the 4th round draw.

Mike Cooper, what a game to start in.

And we take the lead with what the game is calling an own goal. Graham Carey just smashing it towards goal and it bounces off a Bolton man and in.

We are only 12 minutes in!

Mike

Cooper

what a performance.

Man of the Match.

We are in the next round.

We needed that money.

Uhm. Premier League Crysal Palace want to buy Kyle Letheren. You can have him.

Baffled.

Now for the excitement of the FA Cup draw…

Once more its Watford in the FA Cup.

They stood in our way in 1984 semi final.

I was there when Hameur Bouazza knocked us out in 2007 quarter final.

Now we travel to Vicarage Road for revenge and a big big upset in the 4th round.

.

Enjoy the premier league Kyle.

( what is going on? )

Gregg Wylde turns down Wimbledon. Come on Gregg, just leave please.

Walsall at home.

We played most of the game with 10 men after Stuart O’Keefe elbowed someone.

Not much we could do then.

Stupid Stuart.

As it is January, I have been searching for some more defensive quality. I think it’s our weakest area. So welcome to Jon Stankovic from Huddersfield on loan.

The 6″3 Slovenian Sonny Bradley

Back on the road against Southend.

Stankovic makes his debut, and welcome back Ryan Taylor.

Yes Ryan, yes Sarce, 91st minute winner. Love it.

Ending todays episode on a high.

One word that could describe the last two months is inconsistent. Many highs and lows, yet we are still in the top ten and a play-off push is more than possible.

We are halfway through the January transfer window and we if we strengthen the right areas anything is possible.

I’ll see you next time for that big FA Cup game against Watford and all the league games around it.
