Plymouth Argyle are in action against Leyton Orient in the first round of the EFL Cup tonight. Ahead of the encounter, we spoke to Orient fans Paul and Steve from the Orient Outlook Podcast to get their thoughts on the game and the season in general.

First of all, how did you get into supporting Orient?

Cheap season tickets and the locality of the club to be honest.  As teenagers from the local area with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon with an appetite to watch live football, we took advantage of Barry Hearn’s £10 season ticket offer for under 16’s and have never looked back.

What are your hopes in general for the season ahead?

Our previous troubles and experiences have been really well documented, so for our first season back in the football league would like to consolidate our position in this league, show other clubs what we’re all about and not be in a relegation dog fight at any point this season. We think a lot of fans would like us to follow Tranmere and do back to back promotions but we won’t get ahead of ourselves.

With this being a League Cup game, would you expect Orient to be at full strength, or will we see something more experimental?

Despite this not being the most ideal of fixtures for us in terms of the journey and it being held midweek, as a club we take all competitions seriously and treat them with full respect so we believe Ross will field a team capable of winning the match. Our new signings are still bedding in so it will be interesting to see if we use this as another opportunity to give these players a run out or a few squad players come in.

We were all touched by the awful news regarding Justin Edinburgh over the summer. How has the Orient family as a whole moved to cope with his passing?

Everyone copes with grief and tragedy in different ways.  Many fans have spoken a lot about their memories of Justin and have taken comfort from the outpouring of respect and kind words from the world of football.  Most, if not all English clubs have sent messages of condolence and some clubs from abroad.  To know how highly respected and regarded Justin was/is, is hugely helpful for many fans to come to terms with his loss.

Also have to mention the club who have handled this so expertly, they’ve really written the playbook on how to deal with such a tragedy as it’s not happened before.

Which Orient players should people be looking out for this year?

We’ve got a very settled squad, many have been with us for at least two years, some longer via our academy.  Our two new strikers Lee Angol and Conor Wilkinson looked sharp in pre-season and when they start to gel will be a handful. Josh Wright has looked good in pre-season and scored against Cheltenham.  We’ve also got goals on our defenders too.

And are there any real weak links in the side you’re worried about?

No not this season. We have a good blend of youth and players who’ve played for many years in the football league.

What first comes to mind when you think of Plymouth Argyle?

The ball boy situation a few years back and then the club going out of their way to report us to the league which led to an extended ban for Liam Kelly who shoved the ball boy (which we don’t condone).

We’ve had a few big games with you over the last few years with many fans enjoying the 2-0 home defeat (first game under Andy Edwards and were down to 10 men within the first 30 seconds) and although remembered partially for the wrong reasons winning at Home Park 3-2 under Danny Webb when everyone thought we would get turned over was one of a handful of highlights under the previous regime.

Which Argyle player, if any, would you like to sign?

I wouldn’t like to say but it’s fair to say you have a lot of experience in your team and on your day you will no doubt give some teams a very hard time and we expect you to be challenging for the League Two title.

And finally, what is your prediction for the game?

This will be a 0-0 or a 2-2, it’ll go to penalties, and our last penalty win was over you guys in the same tournament 5 years ago so that would do nicely!
