Former Bury centre-back Will Aimson has yet to play a minute of football since his move to Plymouth Argyle after he endured a pelvic injury towards the end of last season. Though manager Ryan Lowe previously claimed he would be ready for the start of the season, he has not been involved at all yet.

Today, Lowe stated that the main concern for Aimson is his fitness: “He’s training fully today. it’s just fitness we need to get him up to. Will [Aimson] knows our style of play.

“He won’t be available for Saturday, but in the next couple of weeks he’ll probably start pushing – and then I do have headaches because some will probably miss out on the bench. That’s what we want, that’s what we’re here to do, and when you’ve got a good squad like we have, some are going to be happy, and some aren’t.

“There are a lot of EFL Trophy games coming up, he can go straight into them, no problem, and there is the Central League as well.”

Argyle’s first EFL Trophy match is against Bristol Rovers on 3rd September, with the first Central League game on 10th September against Milton Keynes.

Scott Wootton has enjoyed a strong start to the season at the right centre-back position, while loanee Josh Grant enjoyed a positive debut in the EFL Cup against Leyton Orient, easing the pressure on Aimson’s return.
