Plymouth Argyle face Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup first round tomorrow, with both sides looking to win and progress to the next round. Ahead of kick-off, we spoke to Lion of Vienna Suite, a Bolton Wanderers fansite, who can also be found on Twitter, to get their views.
First of all, how did you get into supporting Bolton?
Like many football fans, it was a family affair. Got taken to a game by my Dad when I was young & that was it. There was only one team I was going to be able to support and that was Bolton.
Are there any Bolton players in particular we should be looking out for this weekend?
Daryl Murphy & Chris O’Grady are seasoned strikers in a rich vein of form. Dennis Politic & Thibaud Verlinden are tricky wingers who will look to cause problems for your full-backs. Joe Dodoo could also be a threat either upfront or from the wing.
After a tumultuous pre-season, what would you say your ambitions are for the rest of the campaign?
To stay in League One would be a terrific achievement. We’re currently on -2 points, so it would be some ask.
What are your thoughts on manager Keith Hill?
He has an eye for an extravagant quote but he’s backing up his words with results on the pitch. He’s brought a more attacking style of football which is eye-catching whilst producing positive results.
Will we see a full-strength Bolton side in the cup? Or do you think Hill will take the chance to
experiment?
Hill’s stated he has cup fever so I wouldn’t expect too many changes from the team that beat Fleetwood last Saturday.
What sort of tactical style do you expect to set up with on Saturday?
A style which is the best for getting the win. Hill generally plays an attacking style, but has been known to adapt to a more dynamic, long-ball approach should he feel the need.
And are there any real weak links in the side you’re worried about?
Not really. We’re in great form & everyone’s been playing brilliantly in recent weeks.
What first comes to mind when you think of Plymouth Argyle?
Those insurance adverts with Paul Whitehouse shouting “Green Army”.
Which Argyle player, if any, would you like to sign?
We almost signed Billy Clarke in the summer. Probably Joe Riley. Had one of the best debuts I’ve seen when Bolton beat Stoke 5-0 eight years ago.
And finally, what is your prediction for the game?
I reckon it’ll be close. No doubt Ryan Lowe will be up for it given his affinity to Bury. I’ll say 2-1 Wanderers. All the best for the rest of the season, just not tomorrow.
