Tom Harris has the unenviable task of rating the players following an unprecedented Home Park rout for Plymouth Argyle.

It was Home Park humiliation for Plymouth Argyle as the Pilgrims were comfortably defeated 5-0 by Burnley.

The Clarets completed their scoring in the first 45 minutes as they eased their way to victory, aided on multiple occasions by simply unforgivable Argyle defending. The duo of Zian Flemming and Josh Laurent notched a brace, while Josh Cullen rounded off the scoring without home reply.

In a diabolical display from the hosts, who were missing Morgan Whittaker (who is rumoured to be leaving PL2), Argyle could only muster one shot on target when Adam Randell’s free kick was punched away by James Trafford after the break.

Here are the ratings from what was a forgettable affair for those in Green.

Daniel Grimshaw, GK – 4. You can’t concede five goals and expect a good rating. Couldn’t do much about most of the goals, and prevented Laurent from scoring more with a fine save in the early proceedings.

Bali Mumba, RB – 4. Again failed to effect the game for Argyle offensively and had his hands full defensively against Lyle Foster. Shifted to the left after the break but to little impact.

Victor Palsson, CB – 3. Simply not good enough from Palsson who was caught out for goals on multiple occasions. Shocking clearance that led to the first goal, lost track of Flemming for the second, and couldn’t get up to head away the fourth on the goal line.

Julio Pleguezuelo, RCB – 5. MOTM Pleggy is the only one to come out of this recent run on a high. His battling, gutsy, displays, should be an example the rest of the team should pick up on.

Tymoteusz Puchacz, LCB – 4. Three of the five goals came down his side which ultimately cost Argyle. Argyle were drastically short of centre backs, so shoe horned the loanee into a back three where he did not look comfortable at all. Looked a lot more assured at left back in the second half, but ultimately the damage was already done.

Nathaniel Ogbeta, LWB – 3. Had some early opportunities to get Argyle forward but his crosses were off the mark. Like Puchacz part of a left flank which were second best throughout. Subbed at half time for Sorinola, it really has been a forgettable season for Ogbeta since joining last summer.

Adam Randell, CM – 3. His sloppy error led to the fifth goal of the game when he rolled the ball back straight into the path of Flemming which eventually ended up with Cullen scoring. Simply couldn’t get near Burnley’s midfielders and was swapped for Houghton midway through the second half.

Darko Gyabi, CM – 3 After being hooked at half time at the weekend we expected a response from Gyabi but he offered very little once again.

Rami Al Hajj, LAM – 3. Following some semi-promising displays from Al Hajj this was one to forget. With the game poised at 0-0 he had an opportunity to capitalise on an error inside the Burnley box but his indecisiveness and his lack of urgency was seized on by Burnley’s well oiled defence. His decision making to dally on the ball cost him on numerous occasions and saw him swapped for Callum Wright at half time.

Michael Baidoo, RAM – 3. For a club record signing we’ve simply not seen enough from Baidoo so far in Green. Admittedly it’s a tough situation to come into but even so the midfielder surrendered possession too easily, lost 50/50 tackles and failed to impact play at all when Argyle had the rare opportunity with the ball. This was summed up in the first half when Argyle had a breakaway but Baidoo’s weak pass to Ogbeta was intercepted by a backtracking Burnley defender. Substituted in the latter stages of the second half.

Ryan Hardie, ST – 3. Simply ineffective in this system, especially against a side like Burnley who held onto the ball for so long. Hardie failed to hold up play when Argyle went long. He simply isn’t the style of forward for the system Muslic wants to play. Subbed for Mustapha Bundu at the break.

Subs:

Mustapha Bundu, ST – 5. Certainly was more of a physical presence than Hardie up top. However was caught offside far too often. Had a snap shot fire into the sidenetting.

Callum Wright, CAM – 4. Offered more energy than Al Hajj but little end product which always seems to be the case with Wright.

Matthew Sorinola, RB – 5. Been harshly dropped in recent weeks, the full back is full of running and offers a good delivery. Couldn’t use his attacking attributes to full effect on this occasion though.

Jordan Houghton, CM – 5. Replaced Randell with 20 minutes to go but failed to improve the state of play. Deserves a start given the poor recent displays from the other midfielders.

Tegan Finn – N/A. A late substitute for the youngster who couldn’t find the spark Argyle needed to get even a consolation from the match.
