In many ways, this month was the mirror image of September which saw some poor results but largely decent (and better) performances.

Lowe said in the build-up that he was treating this match just like any other. Perhaps that explains why Plymouth Argyle didn’t look up to the occasion.

Exeter’s 3-4-1-2 means they often play a high-line which leaves them vulnerable on the counter attack, with lots of gaps between their defence and midfield.
Argyle Beat Carlisle Despite Mayor Absence
Technical prowess and midfield control were not required. Carlisle simply surrendered control of the midfield to Argyle, with predictable results.

The aerial presence of Niall Canavan was much needed asset for Ryan Lowe’s team and the former Scunthorpe man used his tall frame superbly.
Opposition View: Plymouth Argyle vs Carlisle
We’ll likely start with a 3-5-2 after switching from a 4-3-3 early in the season. We try to play out from the back but it hasn’t really worked for us yet.
Wasted Chances Are Costing Argyle Valuable Points
While defending is a major concern, scoring is also emerging as an area where Plymouth Argyle are underperforming, and it’s starting to make a big impact.

Wellens has made it quite clear that he thinks the EFL Trophy is an unwanted distraction so it was no surprise to see Town get a walloping in midweek.
Header Lost; Goal Conceded; Points Dropped – Same Story for Argyle
Unless the defensive issues are cut out, Argyle won’t win the points they perhaps deserve. If that’s the case, a long season of frustration may beckon.
