Plymouth Argyle’s League One fixture against Accrington Stanley on Saturday has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests.

The positive tests come from the Accrington camp; their fixture against Swindon this evening has already been called off, and they’ve now been forced to suspend fixtures against Argyle and Hull City next Tuesday.

We can only presume a significant number of Stanley players and staff have been exposed to somebody who has now tested positive. Indeed, Argyle themselves have seen Will Aimson, Ryan Hardie and Conor Grant test positive for COVID this season, but haven’t had any games called off until now. However, we know things are different if a sizable number of players and staff are forced to isolate, and if that is indeed the case, Accrington would understandably be unable to fulfil their fixtures.

A date for the rearranged fixture has yet to be announced. It’s interesting to see Argyle’s official website refer to the game as “suspended” rather than “postponed”, but one would suspect it will be rearranged like any other postponed fixture. That being said, in an already busy season Accrington now have three fixtures to make up, so don’t be surprised if the game is shoehorned into Argyle’s schedule on a peculiar date.
