A brief introduction

After three wins out of four recently in the league for Plymouth Argyle, the form table if not the league table is looking a little rosier. The fans are daring to dream that this season might replicate the last and that Adams’ men can put together another fine run of form and find themselves hitting the dizzy heights of the playoffs again. What seemed almost impossible just a month ago is starting to happen as Argyle move off the bottom spot and will look to continue their fine form against Sunderland this weekend. However, it will surely be no easy task.

Sunderland have taken well to life in League One and currently lie in 3rd place, unbeaten in five and a with game in hand on the two teams above them. For once,  Sunderland fans can be happy as they look to be heading into the Christmas period towards the top of the table and with the same manager they had at the start of the season! However, all the pressure is on them now after Doncaster manager claimed they should “run away with the league”, so for them, Plymouth Argyle should theoretically be a routine win. But there’s no denying Adams and the Green Army will be looking to fire a spanner in the works for the Black Cats!

These two clubs haven’t played each other in 11 years – with the last coming in 2007 in the Championship when Argyle lost 2-0

Argyle went a period of 14 years without a loss to the Black Cats.

This game often produces lots of goals with the last three games between the sides totalling 13 goals!

Expected line-ups

Argyle (4-2-3-1): Macey, Moore, Songo’o, Canavan, C Grant, Fox, Ness, Sarcevic, J Grant, Ladapo, Carey.

Sunderland: (4-2-3-1): McLaughlin, Matthews, Baldwin, Flanagan, James, Cattermole, McGeoch, Gooch, Honeyman, Maguire, Sinclair.

Writer’s comments

It is nice to be able to be a bit more confident when putting my opinion across about Argyle! Recently Argyle have been playing well and looking more confident, particularly with Freddie Ladapo finding himself in great form in front of goal. However, Sunderland have been on fire for the whole of this season and their form is even finer than Argyle’s. Therefore, I think it’ll be a tough game for Adams’ men and if I’m being optimistic, and I would be happy with a draw here. 1-1.
