Plymouth Argyle have been drawn at home to Reading in the second round of the EFL Cup. The tie will take place on Tuesday, 27th August. It’s the first time since 1990 that Argyle have been victorious in the first round of the League Cup in consecutive seasons, having beaten Bristol City 1-0 last season.

Argyle secured their spot after comfortably defeating Leyton Orient 2-0 last night, Callum McFadzean scoring his third goal of the season before Dominic Telford killed the game with a goal on his full debut. Argyle bossed possession and Orient managed just a single shot on target all night.

Meanwhile, Reading beat Wycombe Wanderers 4-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 at Adams Park. The Royals fielded a strong team but fell behind on the night, equalising through new signing George Puscas, who was making his debut after signing from Inter Milan.

Manager Ryan Lowe described the draw as a “win-win game”, He went on to say: “They are going to come here, and, whether they are going to change the team, I’m not sure, but we’ll stick to what we’re doing.

“Our main priority is the league but we’ll never disrespect any cup competition when you’ve got a squad like ours, and it’s probably got the makings of an entertaining game.”
